Community Speedwatch 2022
The community Speedwatch will be operational in Langham between 25th April and 8th May 2022.
We are looking for volunteers to go out in groups of 3 for about an hour at a time at the 6 locations around the village that have been identified and agreed with RCC and Leicestershire & Rutland Police. We are looking for at least 12 volunteers so the deployment can be spread amongst them. There will be at least 3 sessions a day.
Training will be given on Wednesday 13th April by RCC and Wednesday 20th April by PC Laurie Appleton. Both training sessions will be held at the Village Hall from 4 to 5pm.
If you would like to volunteer or want further information please e-mail or call Cllr. Catlin on 07487 296197.
As we are the first village to deploy the Community Speedwatch this year there will probably be some press interest and RCC are preparing a press release to go out shortly.
Analysis of the Langham 2022 Speedwatch
Below is a comprehensive analysis of the results of the 2022 Langham Speedwatch compiled by Harold Dermott from anonymised data from the Speedwatch exercise.
Over a two week period, 376 motorists were recorded at speeds in excess of 36 mph in a 30mph zone. The fastest speed recorded was 53mph with several others in excess of 50mph. all but 5 on the A606, This amplifies the current concerns about traffic on the A606 and, for the future, the impact of additional traffic from the new developments in Cold Overton Road. The analysis has been be forwarded to Rutland County Council with letter expressing LPC’s concerns about traffic volumes and speeds – and emphasising the need for a pelican crossing on the Cold Overton Road. Councillor Catlin, and the Community Speed Watch volunteers were thanked and commended by the CSW co-ordinators for carrying out a successful and thorough project. For the future, to further emphasise the community’s concerns, Council Catlin will co-ordinate a twice-yearly traffic count on the A606, separating the data for cars and HGV’s, and this again will be brought to the attention of RCC.
